A Study on Male Birth Rate During Baby - boom Period


Abstract
This study has been performed to analyze male birth rates during baby boom period of 1950-60s in Korea. In this study, 183 subjects aged late 50s to 70s were interviewed for their childbearing history under legal marriage. In this study, average rate of male births among live births within a family is 0.532, which is close to data of Korean statistical office in 1995. But among those who bore three or fewer children, the rate ranged more than 0.6. The male rate provged to be influenced by total number of siblings and head¢¥s educational level. The male birth rate of those who were highly educated but bore few children is sighificantly lower than those who were less educated but bore many children.
